On January 28, at the Hyatt Centric Milano Centrale, we held our Italian Sunshine Reporting – Intensive Training for Compliance Officers: a full-day, in-person working session designed to help teams translate transparency requirements into concrete, workable processes, with a focus on data, systems, governance, and operational readiness.

The response was beyond expectations: the room was fully booked, with a strong waiting list. We truly wished we could accommodate everyone; however, we prioritised a format and venue that supported the kind of environment this topic requires — focused, discussion-led, and practical — and that necessarily limited the number of seats we could offer.

Average rating received: 9.5/10

A concrete mix of industries and functions involved

The session brought together professionals across the life sciences ecosystem, including organisations from:

  • Pharma / Biopharma
  • Medical Devices / MedTech
  • Vaccines / Specialty pharma
  • Consumer health

Importantly, participation wasn’t limited to Compliance. Teams also included colleagues from Legal, Finance, IT/Data, and Commercial/Marketing, reflecting a reality many organisations are now experiencing: operational implementation is rarely “owned” by a single department.

Why this day was “necessary” (not just useful)

One of the strongest messages that emerged was the value of early preparation — not as “deadline anxiety,” but as structured work on what cannot be reconstructed at the last minute.

As Salvatore Ruggiero (Founder & CEO, Merqurio Group) put it during the session:

“Not just a useful day but a necessary one… some information that must be acquired today cannot be acquired the night before… the issue is the acquisition, storage, and processing of this data… at the moment of the touchpoint…”

The takeaway is simple: the hardest part is not the concept of reporting — it is building a repeatable way to capture and govern information at the moment interactions occur, across events, field activities, agencies, engagements, contracts, and internal processes.

What participants appreciated

Beyond the operational content, the value of cross-functional exchange came through strongly.

One participant from a large German-headquartered life sciences group shared:

“I am very happy to have participated in this event, organised in an impeccable way. I am also very happy I extended the invitation to colleagues from different departments, because I truly believe different perspectives — congress/event operations, IT, compliance, and legal — are necessary to set up a project of this importance… Speakers of the highest level…”

This type of feedback reinforced one of the core principles behind the day: Sunshine preparation becomes clearer and faster when teams can align across functions early — before the pressure of timelines and publication.

What participants we say about us matters more than what we say about the experience.
If you found the session valuable, a short comment or testimonial helps other industry colleagues understand what this workshop is. Spread the word!

Why we kept the group size limited

The most common request we received was: “Can you add more seats?”

We genuinely tried — but for this format, the room, facility, and overall working environment matter. We chose a setting that supports the quality of interaction required for an operational topic, and that narrowed the available options.

A limited group size allowed us to preserve:

  • real discussion (not just presentations)
  • time for questions and practical discussion
  • peer-to-peer benchmarking
  • an environment where participants can engage without “conference-style” distance

Upcoming date: 26 February (nearly full)

Given the interest (and the waiting list), we are planning additional dates. The upcoming February and March sessions are already close to full.

Due to strong interest and a waiting list from the previous session, places for the 26 February workshop are limited. Additional dates are being planned.

Sponsor, speakers, and nature of the event

This day was made possible thanks to the support of Vector Health, sponsor of the initiative, and the contribution of our speakers: Salvatore Ruggiero, Roberto Cursano, Edoardo Lazzarini, Ned Mumtaz, and Alessia Ghiani.

The event was organised on a non-profit basis, with fees used exclusively to cover essential costs (venue, materials, catering).
